Anger Management & Conflict Resolution

It is possible to turn this around, REGNA (anger spelled backwards), by recognizing and avoiding your triggers or learning how to display appropriate reactions when avoidance is not an option. Come learn the cycle of anger and at which point you have the capability of turning things around.

Interactive workshop discussing ways to build and maintain healthy friendships and dating relationships.

Breaking The Silence: When Things Don’t Feel So Good Inside

Many teens experience feelings of depression, anxiety, or mental diseases which often contribute to suicidal thinking and/or substance abuse. “Break the Silence” and learn basic facts and symptoms of mental illness. Discuss fears, misconceptions, treatment options, and the role of family and friends in recovery.

Charting Your Course: A Guide to Self Leadership—Follow-up Discussion to Opening Presentation

Offered by popular demand, this workshop will allow students to process the conference’s opening presentation, Charting Your Course: A Guide to Self-Leadership. This multi-media presentation by Camfel Productions challenges students to consider their long-range goals, to organize their thoughts and ideas about the future, and to chart a course for excellence in their lives. Taking the responsibility for the decisions you make is the first step to taking the leadership position in your life. This workshop will discuss the key points from the presentation and help you as youth leaders to determine how to best implement them with your peers, your schools, and your own lives.

Cyberbullying

Have you been bullied online? Do you know what to do? This workshop will help you and your friends to handle situations involving online bullying.

I Love You—I Hate You

We will discuss abusive relationships and ways that 6th–8th graders can identify warning signs. Topics include dating relationships, friendships, and abuse at home.

It’s a Wonderful Life (If You Don’t Smoke)

Curious about smoking? Travel through time to see how your life will turn out if you smoke.

Let the Games Begin!

Non-competitive, practical activities and games that help foster positive social behaviors and encourage cooperation through play will be the theme of this workshop. Come and join the fun!

Michael’s Hope

Michael and Patricia were driving home when a drunk driver took their lives. They were teenagers with hopes and dreams, just like you. What is the difference your life would make if today was to be your last? Come hear parents, Chuck and Linda Amos tell of the tragic loss of this promising young couple, and the story of Michael, a gifted young artist who led by example, impacting many lives as a role model. His story will inspire you to strengthen your leadership and our time together may help to better equip you to make a difference in the world around you.

Mirror, Mirror

This workshop promotes an adolescent’s development of a healthy lifestyle and positive self-image. The goal: to reduce the obsession for obtaining the “perfect body.” We will examine factors that influence attitudes about weight and discuss guidelines for healthy eating as well as eating disorders.

Sticks & Stones & Words 4ever Hurt You

This program examines the differences between joking and harassment while helping students identify the effects of each on a victim. It emphasizes individuals’ rights and responsibilities and identifies effective techniques to handle physical and verbal harassment. The role of the bystander is emphasized through discussion and role play.

Survival 101: A Student’s Guide to Staying Alive

Presented by Trooper First Class Steven Groman, developed by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Buckle Up PA Project, Survival 101 provides a dynamic, hard-hitting, multi-media presentation addressing the various aspects of highway safety. This workshop will also include real stories from TFC Groman’s personal experience on the road as a state trooper.

Teen Parenthood Awareness: Fact & Fiction

This fun and information program is designed to promote responsibility and encourage good decision-making while exploring the day-to-day realities of being a teen parent.

The Choking Game

This workshop, presented by Buckingham Township Police Officer Stephen Thomas, will explain the dangers of engaging in “The Choking Game,” from the killing of brain cells to accidental deaths.

Using Your School’s SAP (Student Assistance Program) Team to Help Other Students

Have you ever felt concern about the behavior or lifestyle of other students at your school? Do you believe their behavior or lifestyle is impacting their academic performance, or worse? Have you been confused about how to respond to your concern? Do you know about your school’s SAP team? This workshop will define what your school’s SAP Team is and what it does. It will assist you in identifying early warning signs of possible problems in the lives of other students. It will assist you in learning how to make a referral (whether named or anonymous) and teach you how the SAP team will respond to your referral. Take this workshop’s message back to your school and be an advocate for responsible student pro-action.

What Would You Do? How to Make Good Choices

This workshop will be a fun, interactive experience where students will learn critical thinking skills to address “real life” scenarios.

Adult Workshops

HBO Addiction Project: Why Can’t They Just Stop?

Addiction affects one out of every four families in the U.S. The Emmy award-winning HBO documentary Addiction includes a variety of segments addressing the disease of addiction. We will explore one segment reflecting new research on addiction as a chronic, relapsing brain disease, and another that deals with adolescent addiction, treatment, and impact on the family. There will be time for questions between each piece. Participants will leave this workshop with a better understanding of those affected by addiction and the reason why it is not so easy to “just stop.”

Media Advocacy

Learn how to make your story newsworthy in today’s 24/7 media environment. Participants will learn basics from the do’s and don’ts of good interviewing to working with reporters to ensure your message is “quotable”.

Old Standbys & New Kids on the Block: Substance Abuse Trends among Youth

Those working with youth are aware that substance use among adolescents is a continuing, ever-evolving phenomenon, which must continuously be challenged with active prevention, intervention, and treatment. The informed youth-serving professional understands the need to keep abreast of the newest trends in youth substance use, while not overlooking the obvious frontrunner, alcohol. This workshop will discuss alcohol use among adolescents, prevention strategies that are in use on the national and local levels, and resources that may be available to assist those wishing to reduce underage drinking. Also addressed will be some newer substance use trends that, while less common than alcohol use, are important for advisors, guidance counselors, and teachers to recognize.

What’s All this about Tobacco?

Fast-paced and fun presentation, targeting smoking/tobacco use, cigarette ingredients, effects on the body, nicotine addiction, and cigarette advertisements. Lots of “show and tell!”
